Group Day Habilitation Services
The Group Day Habilitation Program is to assist individuals in building relationships, having respect for others and their environment, making individual choices and making a meaningful contribution to their lives and community. Services provide assistance with the aquisition, retention or improvement of life skills, socialization and community integration.
Activites include meal preparation, money skills, shopping, personal care and safety. The Day Habilitation consumers participate in various recreational activities. These activities include but are not limited to Miracle league baseball, bowling, horseback riding, basketball, floor hockey, walking, fishing, Bingo, Nintendo Wii, and X-Box Kinnect.
The Day Habilitation consumers also learn horticulture skills by planting, fertilizing, and watering their vegetable garden. When the vegetables are ready to be picked, they are washed and made into healthy snacks. The Day Habilitation group enjoys trips to the Bronx and Bear Mountain Zoos, the Norwalk Aquarium, various museums, Imax theatres and farms to go apple picking or interact with animals.
The Day Habilitation group also gives back to the community by volunteering their assistance whereever needed. We currently volunteer at the Salvation Army in Peekskill, serving hot meals to the homeless or displaced. We also volunteer at the Croton Point Park nature museum arranging displays and providing general maintenance.
Individuals who participate in the Day Habilitation program are able to be blended with other waiver programs here at the Keon Center giving them the chance to have a variety of programming in their day. Each participant will have an individualized Day Habilitation plan based upon their own desires and needs, and the opportunity to be a part of an ongoing progress review.
